I always thought heavy coolers were better... until I tried to carry mine 2 miles uphill

Bought a massive 80 quart brute of a cooler last summer because bigger and sturdier seemed safer. Took it to a hike-in site near Asheville, NC and nearly blew out my back on the trail. My buddy carried a cheap 45 quart rotomolded one that was maybe 15 pounds lighter. We set up camp and he had ice left on day 3, mine was lukewarm water by day 2. Something about the thick walls vs just being big... I guess the insulation matters more than the volume. Has anyone else been converted to lighter coolers after a rough carry?

Blowing out my back" is exactly why my cooler stays in the truck now.

Wait, you mean coolers aren't supposed to double as a weightlifting set? Guilty of the same thing, I just drag mine across the gravel now and pretend I'm being smart.

Traded mine for a 65 and my back thanks me every single trip now.
