My three-day trip to Shenandoah proved everyone wrong about hammock camping...
I spent a chilly October weekend at Big Meadows with a cheap $40 hammock setup, not a tent, and it handled 30 mph winds and rain like a champ. The whole campground was miserable in their tents while I stayed dry and slept better than at home. Has anyone else found that the popular hate for hammocks in bad weather is overblown?

Yeah and people act like ground tarps aren't a thing either.

Ground tarps get skipped a lot because folks think the tent floor is enough, but that’s how you end up with wet gear and a muddy footprint. A cheap tarp under the tent makes setup easier and keeps the tent cleaner for years. Different strokes, but I’ve never regretted throwing one down.
