Overheard a guy at REI say his $9 stake remover was a waste, I use a rock

yeah same here, at least for tent stakes a rock always works. But has anyone tried those aluminum claw pullers on frozen ground in late season? I've got a trip to Rocky Mountain NP in October and I'm wondering if I need something sturdier than my usual stick.
