Pro tip: I wrote off my old 2 pound camp chair for years, then a rainy night in Bend changed my mind
Three years ago I swore my 1.1 pound ultralight chair was all I needed, until a cold downpour in Bend last spring had me sitting on a wet log at 9pm while my buddy lounged dry in his clunky 2 pound chair. Now I haul the heavy one on every trip and my back thanks me. Anyone else flip on a piece of gear they used to make fun of?
Wet log at 9pm in a downpour sounds miserable. My whole group used to clown on the guy who brought a chair, called it dead weight. Then we hit a soggy trip in the Olympics and everyone was squatting on rocks while he sat pretty. That was the end of that argument for me. Now the chair goes on every trip no matter the miles. Some comfort is worth the extra pound.
