Question about the 'lighter is always better' rule for tents

I see everyone pushing ultralight tents for weekend trips, but my 8-pound Kelty from 2017 has survived three Colorado hailstorms that shredded my friend's fancy 2-pound shelter. Has anyone else found a weight limit where durability just falls apart?

That rule is for fair weather hikers, not real mountains lol.

Saw a guy in the Tetons with cotton everything. He was hypothermic by noon. Real mountains don't care about your ego, they care about your gear. That rule exists because people die without it.
