Showerthought: my $30 Coleman tent stopped leaking after I re-sealed the seams last month
I used a $9 tube of seam sealer on the rainfly and now it handles a full night of rain at Rock Creek without a drop inside. Anyone else get years out of a cheap tent just by redoing the seams once a season?

A $9 tube of seam sealer is the best money you'll spend on a cheap tent. The factory seams on Coleman and similar brands are pretty much junk from day one, they use the bare minimum of sealer and it breaks down fast. I hit every stitch line on my rainfly and the floor tub with a brush on sealer every spring, let it cure a full day, and I've gotten 6 seasons out of a tent that cost less than dinner. Just make sure the fabric is clean and dry before you seal it or the stuff won't stick for long.
