Switched from a heavy Coleman chair to a $35 tripod camp chair after 3 trips up to Yosemite
Used to haul those big padded armchair things until my back said no more after hiking in the rain last October. Now I get why backpackers love the lightweight ones - they pack smaller than a water jug. Anyone else swap out comfort for weight savings and notice a big difference on car camping trips?

Read a gear blog that said the weight difference saves your knees on longer hikes.

The weight thing is real once you get past a few miles lol. Even a pound less on each foot adds up over a whole day of hiking. @alice269 you are totally right about heavy chairs for car camping though, that's a different game entirely. For me it's all about where the weight sits too, not just total weight. Lighter boots feel way better on descents than heavy ones even if the heavy ones have more cushion. And yeah your knees will thank you on day 3 of a trip for sure.

The tripod chairs are the sweet spot for car camping, I've had mine for two seasons now and it's a game changer for trunk space alone. Just don't set it up on loose sand or you'll be digging the feet out every time you stand up.
