The $18 tarp that beat my $120 tent footprint

I do a lot of solo car camping around the Siuslaw National Forest, and after 4 trips the dedicated footprint for my tent got worn through at the corners. Replacing it was going to cost over a hundred bucks, so I grabbed a cheap silver tarp from the hardware store in Florence and cut it to size. Took me 20 minutes with scissors, and it's held up through two weekends of rocky ground and morning dew without a single tear. The grommets are flimsy but I just tuck the edges under, no stakes needed. Has anyone else ditched the brand name footprint for a hardware tarp, or am I the only one rolling cheap?

Tarps are just plastic. That markup is pure status. Welcome to the cheap life.
