The old timer at the campsite who showed me a better way to stake a tent
After 15 years of hammering stakes at a 45 degree angle like everyone says, a retired park ranger at Glacier National Park last summer just bent one into an L shape and pushed it into the ground with his boot, and my tent didn't budge in 40 mph wind.

Ngl that L bend trick is legit but you gotta be careful with it. Most modern tent stakes are aluminum alloy and bending them like that can cause a stress fracture. The old timers used thick steel stakes that could take that kind of abuse without snapping. Plastic stakes will just crack. So it works great if you've got the right gear for it, but folks should check what their stakes are made of before trying to bend them.

Aw man, that's a really good heads up! I never even thought about the different stake materials, kinda just assumed it'd work on whatever I had.
