Update: quit buying $200 sleeping pads and went back to a $30 foam one from Walmart
Everyone in my camping group swears you need an inflatable pad or you will freeze, but I slept 4 nights in the Ozarks last month on a cheap blue foam pad and woke up warm every time. The trick was doubling it up with a $12 reflective windshield cover from AutoZone underneath, total cost around $42, and my back felt better than on my old Big Agnes. The pad does not pop and does not need me blowing into it for 10 minutes at 11pm either. I know the ultralight crowd will hate this, but has anyone else tried the windshield cover trick under a foam pad?
