Used to book car shipping 2 days before pickup and pay $400 extra, now I lock it in 3 weeks out
I used to wait until the week of my move to call a broker, and the quote for my Civic from Denver to Seattle jumped from $850 to $1,250 because they had no trucks heading that way. A dispatcher in Salt Lake City explained that carriers plan routes about 3 weeks ahead, so booking early gets you on a truck that's already going your direction. Does anyone here actually get a better rate by waiting and haggling, or is that just a myth brokers tell us?
