Serious question, did I ruin my battery by not driving my truck more often this winter?
So I've been storing my 2014 Silverado in the detached garage since November, and I figured a trickle charger was enough to keep everything happy. Last week I went to fire it up and it barely cranked, then died. A buddy told me that was my fault for not driving it every two weeks even with the charger on it, because the battery still drains somehow. I called my mechanic in Salem and he said short trips under 10 minutes are worse than letting it sit, which made zero sense to me. Now I'm stuck between driving it 30 miles every Sunday or paying the $95 for a battery tender setup. Who is right here, do the short drives really kill it or was the trickle charger junk all along?
