Warning: I blew $260 on a car cover that scratched my paint worse than leaving the car outside
Everyone on here swears by those fitted indoor covers, so I bought one for my Camaro in Phoenix and after two months it left swirl marks all over the roof and hood. Turns out dust and grit get trapped under the fabric and it rubs every time the wind moves it, so now I just use a cheap cotton sheet or nothing at all. Has anyone actually found a cover that doesn't do this, or am I stuck paying $400 for paint correction?
Did you ever watch that video where a guy tested a bunch of covers on a black hood for like six months? I remember him saying the indoor ones are only good if the car is already spotless and parked in a garage, so basically they work in the one place you don't need them. Sounds like Phoenix is the worst case for any fabric, since the dust there is basically sandpaper and the wind never stops. I read somewhere that the only covers that don't rub are the loose ones that let air move under them, but then rain gets in and you get a whole new problem. Your cotton sheet trick is honestly what a lot of guys do, it's cheap and you can wash it instead of buying a new cover every year. Four hundred for paint correction hurts but at least it's a one time thing, the cover would just scratch it again.
