Keep seeing people use ChatGPT to write their cover letters and it's so obvious

I've been helping review resumes for a small non-profit I volunteer with in Portland for about 6 months now and I can spot the AI ones within like 10 seconds. The language is always super generic like 'I am passionate about leveraging my skills' and every paragraph has that same bland rhythm. I know because someone I actually know admitted they used it and their letter was almost identical to 3 others we got that week. Has anyone else noticed hiring managers just tossing those right in the trash?

Wait, you're saying you literally got three cover letters from different people that were basically the same? That's wild, I knew it was bad but not that bad. How did they not even try to change a few words?

Heard this from a hiring manager friend too... apparently there's some free cover letter generator going around that spits out almost identical templates. @the_nathan you're lucky you only got three, she said she had like twelve in one week that all started with "I am writing to express my enthusiastic interest..." word for word. People are just copy pasting without even reading them, it's honestly insulting to the people who actually bother to write their own. I can't blame companies for auto filtering those out honestly.
