Met a retired teacher who changed how I read job listings
Was talking to this lady at the dog park in Tulsa, she used to hire for the school district. She said every job posting is just a wish list, not a checklist, and pointed out that I'd been skipping roles where I only matched 60% of the asks. Tried applying to one that felt like a stretch last week, got a call back in 2 days. Anyone else been filtering themselves out of jobs they actually had a shot at?
My HR friend says the same thing, that job ads are basically a manager's dream list and they'll train for the right attitude. You might want to double check that 60% figure though, most folks I know who got hired matched way less than half the posted requirements.
