My boss quit on a Friday and left me his biggest client with zero notes
Two Fridays back at 4:45pm my manager Dan walked into my cubicle in the Chicago office and said he was done, effective immediately. He handed me a sticky note with a client name on it and walked out. No handoff doc, no email thread, nothing. That client was worth around $40k a year to us and I had never spoken to them once. Monday morning I called their contact, admitted I had no history on the account, and asked if she could walk me through what they actually needed from us. She laughed and said Dan never asked her that in three years. We spent 45 minutes on the phone and I wrote down every word. Found out half the stuff we were billing them for was stuff they never asked for. So now I do a 15 minute call with every new account before I touch anything. Has anyone else had a boss bail and leave you holding the bag like that?
