My old boss told me 'never take a job just for the money' and I should've listened

Took a sales gig in Austin paying $15k more than my last role but the culture was toxic and I quit after 4 months. Has anyone else taken a higher paying job that ended up not being worth it?

Took a job in Denver for way more money and absolutely hated it. Left after 3 months with nothing lined up and it was still the right call

Wait, did you actually quit with nothing lined up too? That takes guts but honestly sometimes it's the only way. Taylor's story is similar but I think the whole "never take a job just for the money" thing gets blown out of proportion a bit. Money matters, especially when you're trying to pay rent or save up. The real trick is finding the overlap between decent pay and a place that doesn't make you miserable. Your Austin sales gig sounds like a classic bait and switch where the culture was the hidden cost nobody talks about.

Is it really "just" the money though when a toxic culture drains your mental health so bad you can't function? That extra 15k doesn't help if you're burnt out and can't even enjoy your weekends. Sometimes the real cost of a job is way bigger than what's on the paycheck.
