Switched from applying to jobs online to cold emailing hiring managers directly 3 months ago

I sent out about 40 cold emails to people in my industry (marketing) and got replies from 12 of them. Two turned into actual interviews and one led to an offer. Has anyone else tried this approach instead of just firing off applications on LinkedIn?

Damn, 40 emails and 12 replies? That's way better than my numbers. I sent out 50 and got maybe 5 replies, zero interviews. Pretty sure I came off like a used car salesman trying to sell myself. My emails were like 3 paragraphs long before I realized people don't read that crap. The trick is definitely keeping it stupid short like Mitchell said.

Honestly 40 is solid and 12 replies is really good. For me I had the best luck keeping the email super short like 4 sentences max and making sure I mentioned something specific I liked about their recent work. Also I always waited 2 weeks and sent a follow up that got me my best response rates.
