That $30 LinkedIn Premium trial I swore was a scam actually landed me a job

I signed up for the free month back in February just to see who was viewing my profile. Figured it was a gimmick. But I started messaging hiring managers directly at 3 companies in Austin on a Tuesday night. One of them replied by Thursday. Had an interview the next week. Got the offer after 2 rounds. Is this normal for people or did I just get lucky?

My younger brother tried that same thing back in March. He sent out maybe 15 messages to people at different tech companies in Dallas. Only two people ever wrote him back. One was a recruiter who said they'd keep his resume on file and never called. The other was a guy who told him his cover letter was too long. He ended up getting a job through a friend of a friend a few months later. So I think a lot of it comes down to timing and who you happen to catch on the other end. You got lucky with that Thursday reply, no doubt about it.

Yeah timing's basically everything in this game, right place right moment kind of deal.

Is it really that random though, @elliot_johnson31's story makes me feel for your brother, that timing is brutal.
