Tried switching to project management software for my crew, ended up going back to paper
I run a painting crew of 6 guys here in Portland, and last fall I got sick of my clipboard and whiteboard system. So I dropped $50 a month on this app called FieldPulse to track jobs, materials, and schedules. My guys hated it, they kept missing punch list items because they forgot to check their phones, and I spent more time fixing entries than I saved. After 3 months I canceled it and went back to my old method with a binder and daily morning huddle. Has anyone else found that tech just complicates things for a small crew?

Paper and a morning huddle is hard to beat for a crew that size. Seems like a lot of these apps are built for bigger companies with office people who stare at screens all day instead of painters out on ladders with paint on their hands. You probably saved yourself a headache and a monthly bill by going back honestly. Don't think a six person crew needs that level of complexity when a whiteboard and a quick talk in the morning covers everything. Tech for tech's sake just gets in the way sometimes.

Yeah you actually got me thinking. Used to be all about apps but this makes sense.

Tech for tech's sake" is exactly right, my guys barely use their phones on the job either.
