Hit 1,000 board feet of oak yesterday without realizing it

Was cleaning out the shop and stacking leftover white oak from the last 6 months and counted it up. 1,037 board feet just sitting there from miscuts and small jobs. Has anyone else lost track of their scrap pile like that?

Bet those scraps add up faster than you think. Oak prices being what they are, that's a nice chunk of change sitting there. Probably worth sorting through it before you trip over a gold mine.

lol "trip over a gold mine" - knowing my luck I'd probably trip over a pile of scrap and land face first on a rusty nail. But yeah you're not wrong, I've been meaning to sort through it for weeks now. My garage looks like a hoarder's paradise with all this oak just sitting there. Kinda feels like I'm storing a retirement fund in there though, so maybe I should actually do something about it before my wife decides to "declutter" my stash for me.

Man I feel your pain on the wife wanting to declutter. My garage is basically my second home and I had the same talk about six months ago. What worked for me was just making a small project out of it, pick one piece of oak and turn it into something simple like a cutting board or a shelf. That way you clear a little space and she sees you're actually using the stuff, not just hoarding it. Have you ever done any woodworking before or would this be a first time kind of thing?
