Overhead a foreman on another crew say scribing is a lost art
I was picking up material at the yard in Dayton last Tuesday and caught two guys talking about how most young carpenters just caulk and walk away instead of scribing baseboard to uneven floors. It got me thinking about my own work, I tend to reach for the scribe tool only when the gap is really obvious. How do you all handle walls that are out of square or floors that dip, do you scribe every time or pick your battles?

Why bother scribing when a bead of caulk takes two minutes and looks fine from standing height? Nobody's crawling on their hands and knees with a flashlight checking your baseboard, and the next guy who remodels will rip it out anyway. Scribing every wall is a waste of time you could spend on stuff that actually shows.
