Figured they'd pull out or split the pine, but that Kreg jig held tight through two moves and a slammed drawer, so now I'm wondering what other old shop rules I've been following for nothing and which ones actually saved my butt.
Honestly the "pocket screws are junk" thing got passed down from guys who were using the old steel screws with no fine threads and no jig to keep things square. Like any tool, it comes down to who's using it and how. A well-cut joint with the right screw and a little glue isn't going anywhere, and I've seen plenty of furniture fail that was built "the right way" with dowels and dados too. So is it really that pocket screws are weak, or is it that some folks just did them wrong once and never let it go?
