TIL the framing nailer I swore by for 12 years has a hidden adjustment I never knew about
I was reading through a comment thread on a carpentry site last Tuesday and a guy mentioned that most framing nailers have a depth adjustment wheel near the trigger that hardly anyone uses. I checked my old Hitachi and sure enough there was a little dial I had been ignoring for over a decade. Half the crew I work with had no clue either when I asked them on Wednesday. Now I'm wondering if I've been driving nails too deep on purpose for years when I could have just turned a wheel. Some guys say they like the control of a flush nail every time, others say the depth wheel is a gimmick that slips after a few thousand shots. Is it worth messing with, or should I just leave it where it's been working?
