Update: Tried a new glue for a custom oak table and it failed overnight

Used that 'fast-set' polyurethane stuff on a big panel glue-up in my Denver shop, and it just popped apart by morning. Anyone have a better adhesive for wide, solid wood joints?

Polyurethane can be a real pain if the wood isn't damp enough before you clamp it. That stuff needs moisture to cure properly, or it just stays brittle. Skipping the water spray is a sure way to get a failed joint.

Used to swear by polyurethane for everything until a big maple slab let go on me. Now it's just Titebond III for any serious wood-to-wood joint in the shop. That stuff cures rock solid and handles moisture way better.

My uncle's been a boat builder for forty years and still uses polyurethane on all his marine joints. Says the slight flex matters more than pure rock hardness when things are moving.
