Vent: my miter saw was off by 1/16 inch for 8 months and I blamed the wood
For 8 months I kept getting gaps at the miters on window casings around Dublin, Ohio, and I figured the poplar was just warped. Last Saturday I finally checked the saw with my 6 inch Starrett square and the blade was leaning 1/16 inch off square. I bolted a $3 Harbor Freight indicator to a scrap of plywood and tapped the table with a dead blow until it read zero, then recut the trim for the Mercer job. Every joint closed up and I felt like a fool for all those wasted sticks. I called my old boss to tell him and he said he did the same thing for a whole summer back in '09. How often do you all check your saw setup, or do you wait until the gaps start showing up?
