Warning: My old boss roasted me for using cheap glue on cabinets
I was building a set of kitchen cabinets for a client in Portland. Used some big box store wood glue because it was on sale. My old boss stopped by, saw the squeeze out, and asked what I was using. I told him and he just laughed. Said that glue might hold for a year but it would crack in the shop's humidity swings. He made me scrap the joints and redo them with Titebond III. That was 2 years ago and those cabinets still look perfect. Anyone else have an old timer call you out on something you thought was fine?

...and honestly I thought it looked fine until he pointed out the slight tackiness left under the squeeze out. That got me thinking about all the other shortcuts I took back then. Reminds me of this guy I knew who used drywall screws for hanging kitchen cabinets because they were cheaper. He said they held fine for a year but then the heads started snapping off every time the house settled. His wife walked into the kitchen one morning and found all the upper cabinets leaning against the counter.

So was he like a known corner cutter in general, or was that one of those "I know better but did it anyway" moments?

Did you notice any problems with the cheap stuff before your boss called you out, or did it look fine until he said something?
