Why does nobody talk about the guy at the Yakima lumber yard who measured my truck bed before selling me a single board
Stopped at a yard in Yakima last spring to grab some 2x6s for a shed repair and the guy at the counter walked out to the lot with me instead of just ringing me up. He pulled a tape on my truck bed, looked at the boards I had picked, and said I was about to haul 14 footers in an 8 foot bed with no red flag on the overhang. Then he asked what I was framing, and when I said a shed door frame he swapped my 2x6s for 2x4s and saved me about $60 because the span was short. I stood there feeling like a first year apprentice getting sized up by the lead. Turns out he had been doing that for 20 years and just liked catching guys before they made the drive home with a dangerous load. Now I measure my bed before I leave the house and I ask what the load is for every time. Anybody else got a yard near them where the counter guys actually walk the lot with you?
