Appreciation post: Old-school installer told me to stop pre-gluing seams, saved me hours

Ran into a guy named Bob at a job site in Phoenix last Thursday who watched me glue every seam before rolling. He said I was wasting time and that a good seam roller and proper taping is all you need for residential. I was half-skeptical but tried it on a 12x15 room and it came out just as clean in half the time. Anyone else find pre-gluing is overkill or do you swear by it?

So you're saying Bob just slapped the tape on and rolled it, no glue at all? That's wild to me, but I gotta ask-what kind of backing was on the carpet? I feel like that makes a HUGE difference. Cushion-backed stuff is one thing, but I've had action-backed carpet pull loose on stairs with just tape. Did Bob mention if he ever uses glue for high-traffic areas or stairs, or does he trust tape for EVERYTHING?

Oh man, Bob sounds like he knows his stuff. I used to pre-glue everything too until a old timer set me straight on a big commercial job. Once I switched to just rolling and taping right, I never looked back... saves so much time and still holds up fine.
