Heard a homeowner say carpet is 'just fabric' and I nearly walked off the job

Was doing a tear-out in Maplewood last Tuesday and the guy tells his wife, 'It's just fabric, anyone can staple it down.' I'd been there 40 minutes pulling 30-year-old padding that was glued to the slab. I didn't say anything, just kept working, but it got me thinking about how people see our trade. They don't know about seam placement, pattern matching, or the 8-foot power stretcher that saves your back and their walls. How do you guys handle homeowners who think this gig is a weekend DIY project?
