Hot take: I used to think a 6-inch knife was fine for everything until a job in a huge Denver loft made me realize I was just making my life harder.
I was trimming a massive 40-foot seam with my old 6-inch and my helper just handed me his 12-inch knife, saying 'try this,' and I got a perfect cut in half the time with way less back strain.

Yeah, that "perfect cut in half the time" line really hits home. I was the same way, swore by my little knife for years. Then I had to mud a big ceiling and someone handed me a 14 inch. Felt silly at first but man, it just glides. Never went back.

Right? It's like learning to drive stick shift.

That "glides" part is spot on, but I have to push back on never going back. A 14 inch trowel is great for big open ceilings, but it's a pain for smaller walls or tight corners. My 6 inch still gets used all the time for detail work. The right tool changes with the job, not just the size of it.
