I finally stopped using a seam roller on every single seam
For years I thought a good, hard seam roller pass was key on every job, but last week in a hot, dry warehouse in Tucson, I saw a 20-year installer just use his knee and the flat of his hand on a tight berber. He said the heat and pressure from the knee, right after the iron, sets the glue better without crushing the pile, which I was definitely doing. Anyone else find they were overusing a specific tool?

Man, that hits home. I used to be a slave to my seam roller on every single cut pile job, convinced it was non-negotiable. Watching an old timer just use his gloved hand and body weight on a plush carpet was a total lightbulb moment. I was absolutely overworking the seams and leaving those ugly roller marks behind for no good reason. Sometimes the simple way is just the right way.

Slave to my seam roller" is so real, but gloves can leave oils behind too.
