Old timer told me to stop using tack strips on stairs, try adhesive only instead

Guy with 40 years in the game said glue-down is safer and faster for stairs. Tried it on a split-level last week and he was right, no squeaks and saved me about 30 minutes of cutting. Anyone else ditch the strips on steps?

My neighbor ran a carpet business for 35 years and he says the same thing, tack strips on stairs is just asking for trouble down the road. I gave glue-down a try on my own basement steps about six months ago and haven't heard a single squeak since, which is more than I can say for the upstairs set I did with strips. It might not be that serious for a single run of steps, but if you do stairs often it seems like a no-brainer to switch.
