Showerthought: A customer in Denver told me their old carpet was from the 90s

They said it had outlasted three dogs and two kids, which made me think about how we judge quality now. What's the longest-lasting carpet fiber you've seen in the field?

Yeah, the dust thing hayden144 mentioned is real. I pulled up some ancient shag once and it was like opening a time capsule of pet dander. But it got me thinking about weird stuff under carpets. Found a 1978 newspaper under some linoleum once, perfectly preserved. The headlines were wild. Makes you wonder what we're sealing up under there now.

Old carpets just trap decades of dust and allergens, no matter how long they last.

Honestly, what is it with old flooring being a time capsule? I helped my buddy tear out his basement carpet last year and we found like a dozen old baseball cards from the 80s just stuck to the concrete. They were totally wrecked from the moisture but you could still make out the players. It's crazy what gets lost under there for years.
