Three weeks ago I had a carpet job that nearly made me quit

A customer in Tulsa wanted this cheap olefin berber in a 20x15 room with a doorframe that wasn't square, and I fought that stretch for 6 hours before giving up and coming back the next day. Has anyone else hit a wall like that where you just pack up and walk away for the night?

@karen_roberts4 has a point about checking the subfloor first. I had a similar situation with a bad doorframe in a rental property once, and pulling up the tack strip near the jamb to reanchor it with a few extra staples made all the difference. The cheap olefin berber can be a nightmare because it doesn't have much give, so you have to work the stretch in zones instead of trying to pull it all at once. Maybe try kicking from the corners toward the center next time, that helped me on a 15x20 that was fighting me for hours. Walking away for the night can be smart if your back is already shot, but checking those tack strips and subfloor first saves a ton of headaches.

6 hours on a single room sounds like you're overcomplicating things. Thursday last week I fixed a 12x16 with a 2 inch gap at a bad doorframe in 45 minutes using a knee kicker and a power stretcher in the right order. You probably skipped the step where you check the subfloor for staples or tack strips that are loose. If you had anchored the tack strip properly near the door and stretched from the opposite wall first, that fiber would've laid flat without fighting you. Walking away just proves you didn't plan the install right.
