Why does nobody mention taking a moisture reading before you even pull the old pad up
Was at a supply house in Tulsa last week and heard two guys going back and forth about a basement job where the carpet buckled 3 weeks after install. One of them says the pad felt dry to the touch so they skipped the meter. That stuck with me.
I've been on maybe 40 subfloor jobs in my life and the ones that bit me every time were the ones where the slab looked fine and I trusted my hand. A $60 pin meter takes 30 seconds. I don't care if it's a rental carpet job with cheap pad, I'm not laying anything over concrete without a number written down.
Anybody got a cutoff number they actually stick to on slab, or do you go by the meter's lights and call it good?
