Why does nobody talk about the weird static from that new foam pad?

So I was doing a job in a big old house in Tacoma last month, and the homeowner insisted on this new 'eco-friendly' foam underlay. Brand was GreenStep, never used it before. Got it all laid down, no big deal. But when we started rolling out the carpet over it, this crazy static electricity started building up. I'm talking little blue sparks every time my knee pad touched the carpet, and my helper's hair was standing straight up, lol. It was wild. We had to stop and mist the whole area down with water from a spray bottle just to finish. Learned that some of these new synthetic pads don't have any anti-static treatment at all. Has anyone else run into this with the newer 'green' underlayments? What do you do to stop the zap?

Was it really that bad though? Sounds like a funny story more than a real problem.

You think getting stuck in a bathroom for an hour is funny? Try it when you're about to miss a flight. The panic is real, not a joke. It's only a funny story for the people who weren't there. Trust me, it's a problem when it happens to you.

But honestly, it's still a funny story. The panic in the moment is real, but later? Classic. Missing a flight over a bathroom door is the kind of bad luck people remember for years. Makes a way better story than just another boring trip.
