Guy at a Raleigh gas station told me to ditch my 3 page resume for one page, and he was dead wrong
Two years ago I was filling up in Raleigh when a guy in a suit saw me crying in my car over a rejection email from a bank job. He told me to cut my resume from 3 pages to 1 because recruiters only look at the top third of page one. I did it and got 2 callbacks in 5 months, worse than my old 3 page version which pulled 7 callbacks in the same stretch. So I went back to the long one and landed my current gig at a logistics company in Durham within 6 weeks. I get that short resumes look cleaner but some fields want the details, and mine does. Has anyone else ignored advice like this and had it backfire, or am I the only one who should have trusted my gut?
