Hit my 10,000th mile on a random Tuesday at a rest stop, met someone who changed my route

I was fueling up at a rest stop off I-90 near Erie, Pennsylvania and glanced at my odometer right as it rolled to 10,000 miles on the truck I've had for 13 months. A retired long-hauler saw me staring and asked if I was chasing a milestone, then told me about a shortcut through the back roads that cut 40 miles off my usual way home. Has anyone else had a random number on a gauge line up with meeting someone worth remembering?

Buddy of mine had the same thing happen, some dude at a gas station just tightened a line and refused to take cash. Said it took him longer to smoke his cigarette than fix it.
