Met a guy at a bus stop in Denver who convinced me to stop planning every second of my vacations.
He said, 'The best part of my trip to New Orleans was getting lost and finding a tiny jazz club,' so now I deliberately leave one afternoon completely open, which is how I found this amazing taco stand in Austin last month.

Doesn't that just shift the stress to a different day? I have to plan my time off work way in advance, so a full unplanned afternoon feels like wasting money I earned for the trip. I'd rather research a few good options and pick one in the moment.

True, but what if you plan a loose "choose your own adventure" day with a couple backup spots? That way you're not locked in but still have a game plan.

Exactly, a short list of "maybe" spots gives you freedom without the pressure of a full schedule.
