Noticed something weird at the coffee shop downtown Saturday - everyone was on their phones ignoring each other

I sat at the counter at Brew & Bean on Main Street around 10am, looked around and realized like 15 out of 18 people had their faces buried in screens. Two people sitting together at a table just scrolling instagram for like 20 minutes. Made me wonder when did it become normal to hang out with someone but not actually talk to them? This one older guy was trying to make small talk with the barista and nobody else even looked up. Has anyone else noticed this getting worse or am I just paying attention now?

@brooke767 nailed it. Phones stole the whole vibe.

Honestly it's kind of sad how fast things change. Tbh I remember when people actually talked face to face without checking their phones every five seconds. Ngl it makes you wonder what we're even missing out on now.

My friend saw the same thing at a diner last week, nobody talked for an hour.
