People keep saying chance meetings are always positive, but my experience says otherwise

I met a guy named Dave at a bus stop in Cleveland last winter. We talked for twenty minutes about the weather and he seemed nice, so we swapped numbers. A week later, he called me at 2 AM asking for a ride to the airport, which I gave him. He never paid me back for gas and ghosted me after. I think we need to be more honest that not every random connection leads to something good. Has anyone else had a 'chance encounter' that turned out to be a hassle?

Yeah, chance meetings can be a total coin toss. I once gave a guy my spare change for a train ticket and he just asked for more money the next day. Makes you want to keep to yourself sometimes.
