Ran into an old electrician at a supply house and he saved me $150
I was about to buy a whole new panel for a service upgrade and this guy I hadn't seen in years walked up and showed me how to reuse the existing one with a simple adapter kit. Cost me $12 instead of the $150 I had in my cart. Has anyone else had a chance meeting like that save them money?

Old timer I ran into at the lumber yard taught me how to fix a cracked joist with a sister board instead of tearing out the whole floor. Saved me at least $400 right there.

Banged a sister board onto a rotted rim joist in my crawlspace last spring. Saved me from having to tear out half my deck too.
