Ran into my old boss at a diner in Denver three years ago

I was convinced my career was stuck and that I'd never get a real shot at running my own projects. He sat down next to me at the counter and ended up offering me a partnership on a small remodel job that Tuesday. That one conversation turned into three years of steady work and a crew I actually trust. Has anyone else had a random meeting totally change their work life?

Jump right in and take that idea further, because you're exactly right about the universe picking weird places. A year ago I was grabbing a slice of pizza at a late night spot after my shift, and the guy next to me was complaining about his contractor flaking on a kitchen tile job. I just mentioned I knew someone reliable and he offered me the job on the spot. That random pizza conversation turned into two full kitchen remodels and more than doubled my side work for the next six months. It's wild how a simple comment at the wrong time of night can completely reroute your whole year.

Man that line about being "convinced my career was stuck" hit home hard. I once bumped into a guy at a gas station who recognized me from a podcast I did years earlier, and he turned out to be a contractor looking for someone who could carry heavy stuff without complaining. I thought he was gonna ask me to help him move a couch or something, but instead he offered me a spot on a crew that paid way better than my old gig. Guess sometimes the universe picks the weirdest places to throw you a lifeline, like a diner counter or a pump with stale coffee smell. Ever get that feeling where one dumb coincidence fixes everything you were stressing about?

Pretty sure it was a diner, @the_oscar, not a pump with coffee smell.
