Ran into my old high school shop teacher at Home Depot yesterday

He saw me eyeballing some cheap fittings and just said 'you know that'll crack on you in two years, right?' and honestly it stopped me from buying the wrong stuff for a job I'm doing this weekend.

So are those cheap fittings actually testing way below what they claim, or is it just the recycled ones that are the problem?

I read something the other day about how a lot of those discount fittings are actually made from recycled plastic that's not rated for the pressure, they just stamp a PSI rating on it anyway. A guy on Reddit tested a bunch of them and like half failed way below what the label said. Your teacher probably saved you a nasty leak or a burst pipe this weekend. Good people like that are rare.

Makes you wonder how many other shortcuts we take for granted every day, like that bottle of cheap cleaner that just leaves a film behind instead of actually sanitizing.
