Rant: A stranger at the hardware store saved me from a huge mistake
I was buying a new chainsaw chain and a guy in line said, 'You're gonna hate that skip-tooth pattern for limbing, it'll grab and kick.' He was right, I swapped it for a semi-chisel and the next job went way smoother. Anyone else get a random piece of advice that totally fixed a problem?

My uncle bought a full chisel chain for his first firewood job and spent more time sharpening it than cutting. That skip tooth advice is solid gold, the kind of tip you only get from someone who's been there. It's funny how the most useful info always comes from a random person in line and not the guy getting paid to sell you the thing. I guess the real hardware store is the friends we made along the way, or something like that.

Used to think those skip chains were the best thing ever for speed. Got schooled by an old logger who saw me buying one and said the same thing about it grabbing. Changed my whole setup after that and haven't looked back.

That's a great story about the old logger, @daniel470. Do you think the best advice always comes from people who have no stake in the sale? It seems like their only goal is to save you from their own past mistakes.
