Shoutout to the guy who sat next to me on a delayed flight to Phoenix...
Three months ago, I was stuck on the tarmac for two hours and just started complaining to the stranger beside me. He worked in a field I knew nothing about, but we kept talking the whole flight. He ended up connecting me with a friend of his who needed some freelance help with a project. That one chat basically landed me a new client... anyone else have a random travel chat turn into something good?

Forcing yourself to make small talk is the real trick. I used to just stare at my phone, but last month I asked a guy about his book at the airport bar. Turned out he owned a local print shop and gave me his card. Now I get a solid discount on all my project posters. Most chats go nowhere, but the one that does can pay off for years.

Ever think about how many opportunities we miss by just putting headphones on? I've started forcing myself to make small talk on transit, and it's wild how often you learn something useful. It's basically free networking if you don't act weird about it.
