Spent $45 on a fan palm at a garage sale and it turned my whole living room around

I bought this sad looking fan palm for $45 from an old lady clearing out her greenhouse last June, and now it's 6 feet tall and legit makes my apartment feel like a jungle, has anyone else gotten lucky with cheap plants from random sales?

The three leaf monstera story reminded me of my grandma's old snake plant actually... she gave it to me when I moved into my first place and it was literally just two brown tipped leaves in a cracked pot. I almost threw it out but stuck it on my porch last summer and forgot about it for like four months. Came back in the fall and it had split the pot open with new growth and had pups everywhere. Now I swear by the "neglect and they thrive" method for these cheap finds... they've already survived worse conditions than anything we can throw at them.

Honestly, that's the best feeling right? I got a monstera from a neighborhood swap for ten bucks and it was barely hanging on with like three leaves. Ngl I stuck it in a corner with decent light and watered it maybe once every week and a half, and now it's taking over my whole bookshelf. Tbh I think the key is not to fuss over them too much when they're cheap finds, just give them time to adjust. I've found the ones from regular people at garage sales or Facebook Marketplace are way hardier than the fancy nursery ones that cost a fortune.

Wait, @susan130's snake plant story is basically the same thing right? Love it.
