That stranger at the Greyhound station who taught me lashing techniques
I was stuck in Dallas at the Greyhound station for like 4 hours last winter... my duffel bag split open and all my clothes dumped out on the floor. This older guy, probably in his 70s, walked over and helped me gather everything up without me even asking. He showed me how to tie a proper trucker's hitch with a bungee cord he had in his pocket, right there on the dirty floor. I've used that knot every time I pack my tools for a mobile job now. Has anyone else picked up a random skill from a total stranger like that?

I remember a guy at a gas station in Oklahoma showing me how to fix a broken zipper with a paperclip and some tape. It's funny how the people you'd never expect end up teaching you the most useful stuff. Makes me think most folks are walking around with solutions to problems we haven't even had yet, just waiting for a chance to share them.

Honestly, that's exactly how it is. Random people at bus stops or in checkout lines have dropped the most useful life hacks on me, from how to get a stubborn lid off a jar to the best way to clean a coffee stain out of a carpet. It's like everyone's carrying around a little toolkit of tricks from their own weird experiences, and they just hand it off when you least expect it. Most of the time, they don't even realize how valuable that bit of knowledge is until they pass it along. Makes you wonder how many small problems could be solved if people just talked to each other more.
