The mislabeled hardware bin at a Fort Worth estate sale cost me 3 weekends
I grabbed a coffee can full of what the sticker called "cabinet hinges" for $8 at an estate sale off Camp Bowie, and it turned out to be a mix of three different hinge styles plus some random brackets. I figured sorting it would take an afternoon, but matching each one to a cabinet door in my garage shop stretched into three full weekends and a second trip back to the seller's daughter for a missing box. Turns out the old guy had been a woodworker for 40 years and just dumped every leftover part into whatever can was handy. The upside: his daughter and I got to chatting on that second visit, and she ended up giving me his whole box of brass screws for free because she was glad someone would use them. Has anyone else bought a mystery can like this and ended up with a friend instead of just parts?
